Our mission

It is the mission of Urban Boatbuilders to empower youth to succeed in work and life through woodworking and experiential learning.

What we do

In 1995 a small group of community leaders saw an increased lack of opportunities for youth to learn and develop through hands-on activities, and thus formed the nonprofit Urban Boatbuilders. Since that time, this lack of hands-on opportunities has increased, along with youth unemployment rates and an increased emphasis on standardized testing in schools. Urban Boatbuilders seeks to address the gap this creates for youth to gain technical, social, and emotional skills that will prepare them to pursue their academic and vocational goals. Since Urban Boatbuilders was founded more than 20 years ago, the foundations of hands-on learning and skill-building have been used to create and continuously improve strong programs that help youth prepare themselves to pursue their own success in the modern world.

Caroline was quick to understand our need, and accomplished the project by the deadline we agreed upon. Although this project was disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, she delivered on time with a high-quality product. Highy recommend working with her!

Website Copywriting Project

I had a great experience working for Michael at Urban Boatbuilders. He was courteous and kind, provided excellent guidelines and feedback during the process, and responded with patience and understanding when I had to take a little extra time because of the Covid crisis. I'd highly recommend volunteering with him and UBB.
